HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

The Irish Heart Foundation presents to the ICA the opportunity to engage with the national charity on a key issue of heart health and a challenge to make a real diference to the health of our nation!

With the help of the ICA, we can increase awareness among men and those around them, driving faster recognation of symtoms, resulting in more calls to emergency services. Ultimately we can see more men get to hospital for speedy treatment of heart attack.

This year , we are asking each ICA guild to get involved in the National Day of Volunteering Knit-a-thon, knitting winter woolies for the IHA. The ICA will be provided with knitting patterns for hats, scarves and gloves . It's up to each guild or guild member to decide which pattern to go for.
Guilds will be encouraged to spread the word as much as possible, involving others in the knit-a-thon, whether family, friends or local schools.

Then on the day itself - FRIDAY 30th SEPTEMBER - Guilds all around the country will take to the streets and knit!

Occupying community centres, schools, cafés, shop front windows and anywhere else they are comfortable, the ICA will be showing they have a heart! By knitting in public , the guilds will be sharing the skill and talent of knitting whilst raising awareness of CDV. Not content to leave it at that , the ICA will turn awareness into fundraising , selling the winter woollies through Kilkenny Shops Nationwide!!!!!
